Valvular Heart SurgeryOur heart comprises of four commonly known valves to maintain unidirectional blood flow. These are mitral and aortic valve (left sided), tricuspid and pulmonary valves (right sided). Like any other organ in body our valves are also prone to certain diseases which led to dysfunction of valve and hampers the heart to function properly. These diseases can be obstructive (Stenosis) or regurgitant( back flow ). These lesions are graded from mild to severe depending on severity of lesion and symptoms. Mild to moderate lesion are often asymptomatic or if symptomatic , treated by medical means mostly but if these lesions are severe then should be corrected by surgery (Repair or Replacement ).
